Practical Law is a legal research database that provides timely, reliable, and accurate resources across all major practice areas. Users can access up-to-date documents and clauses, filled with drafting annotations, notes, and negotiation tips, all provided in the recommended legal language of expert attorney-editors. Users are provided with practice notes in plain language explanations of complex legal issues.

It covers more than two dozen practice areas ranging from Agriculture & Rural Land to Arbitration to Tax; EU Law & Brexit; Scots Law; Public Law; and many more. It has collections for many types of lawyers, covers numerous sectors, and has resources like practice notes, standard documents and clauses, checklists, and training resources.

Generative AI Features

In January 2024, Practical Law released generative AI features called Ask Practical Law and Practical Law Clause Finder.  

Practical Law was originally founded in London in 1990, and was acquired by Thomson Reuters in 2013.
