MatterX is a practice management platform for Australian and New Zealand law firms, built natively on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and designed to consolidate core firm operations within the Microsoft 365 environment.

Practice and Matter Management MatterX provides matter lifecycle management within the Dynamics 365 Business Central environment. Matters can be created, tracked, and managed alongside associated billing, trust, and document activity from a single interface.

Trust Accounting The platform includes trust accounting functionality certified by the NSW Law Society, with acceptance across Australian state law societies via reciprocity. Features include three-way reconciliation, statutory deposits, and audit trail capabilities built into the Business Central infrastructure.

Legal Finance and Billing MatterX supports billing, invoicing, work-in-progress tracking, and financial reporting for law firms. A full Business Central deployment adds multi-entity consolidation, unlimited reporting dimensions, and Power BI analytics for growing and mid-market firms.

Email and Communications Capture (Frontdesk) An Outlook add-in enables automatic syncing of emails, meetings, and calls to corresponding matters. Functionality includes MailSync, MeetingSync, and CallSync to reduce manual data entry and keep matter records current.

Document Management via SharePoint Document management is delivered through SharePoint, organizing matter folders, version control, and document search on infrastructure firms may already have in place. Documents stored in SharePoint are accessible to Microsoft 365 Copilot for tasks such as contract summarization and cross-matter search.

AI via Microsoft 365 Copilot Because firm data resides within Microsoft 365, the platform supports use of a firm's existing Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription. Applicable use cases include contract summarization, natural language search across matter documents, clause identification, and document comparison.

Contract Automation (Contra) MatterX Contra supports contract generation from matter data, templates, or guided interviews. Contracts can be generated through Business Central, Copilot, a Word add-in, SharePoint, or web forms.

Deployment Options Two deployment paths are available: a MatterX plus Xero configuration for firms retaining existing accounting workflows, with an estimated go-live of two to four weeks; and a full Business Central deployment for firms requiring enterprise financial management, with a go-live of four to six weeks depending on firm size and migration scope.
