MatterFirst is an AI-native legal practice management platform built for small and boutique Australian law firms, covering matter work from initial enquiry through document preparation, signing, client communication and billing.

Matter intake and workflow configuration
Enquiries move into a lead pipeline for conflict checking, then convert to matters using firm-configured templates that generate tasks, key dates and a document pack automatically. A visual builder lets firms design and publish workflows with conditional logic, approval steps and automated actions.

AI-assisted document review
An integrated AI assistant extracts parties, dates, financial figures and other matter details from uploaded documents and presents them with source references for practitioner confirmation before the information is used elsewhere in the matter. The assistant also supports drafting client documents and communications, with proposed changes requiring user review and approval.

Automatic time capture
The platform generates time-entry suggestions from matter-linked meetings, emails and added documents; entries are created only after a user accepts them.

Built-in signing and client portal
Documents can be prepared and sent for electronic signature from within a matter, with completed PDFs and signing certificates retained on the record. A branded client portal shares matter progress, documents, messages, forms and payments with clients.

Billing and trust accounting
Billing functions include time and AI usage-charge review, itemised export and invoicing, with sync to Xero. Trust accounting covers per-matter trust ledgers, receipts, withdrawals, reconciliation and disbursement records, with a trust compliance review workflow for New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia.

Integrations and API access
A documented REST API and webhooks are included on the Practice, Firm and Enterprise plans; the Solo plan does not include API or webhook access.
