It supports both traditional keyword search and more advanced semantic retrieval, enabling users to locate relevant materials based on meaning and legal context rather than exact terms.

The platform is positioned as a modular system with multiple tiers that progressively add AI capabilities and enterprise functionality. There is Lawsearch (a structured legal database with improved semantic search), Lawsearch AI (productivity layer on top of Lawsearch), and Lawsearch Enterprise (Lawsearch AI + enterprise knowledge management layer).

Lawsearch Enterprise by Weblaw is an internal search engine designed specifically for law firms to improve information retrieval and knowledge management. It focuses on  centralizing and streamlining access to all the firm's internal and external legal data within the corporate network. Weblaw, based in Bern, Switzerland, was founded in 1999 and provides Legal search technologies, (online) publications and consulting services.
