Overview

Laurel is an AI-driven timekeeping and work intelligence platform that automates timesheet creation and management for legal and professional services firms. Designed to replace manual time entry, the platform passively captures digital work activity and uses firm-specific large language models to generate structured, compliant time entries and billing narratives.

Key features and functions include:

Automated Work Capture
Laurel's desktop and cloud assistants continuously track billable and non-billable activity across email, documents, web browsers, video conferencing, and other applications. Timekeepers configure which applications and URLs are included, and remain the sole users with access to their captured work history.

AI-Generated Time Entries and Narrative Writing
The platform groups related work activities into coherent time entries using an AI clustering model trained on the firm's own data. A narrative generation feature produces billing-ready descriptions aligned with firm, client, and matter-specific guidelines.

Real-Time Billing Compliance
Laurel checks time entries against client billing rules before submission, flagging non-compliant narratives and entries in real time. The system also supports ingestion of outside counsel guidelines (OCGs) to automate compliance rule classification and enforcement.

Work Intelligence and Analytics (Laurel Signal)
Firm leadership and administrators can access reporting on utilization, matter profitability, capacity planning, and the distribution of time across activities and applications. A dedicated module, Laurel Signal, measures true cost of delivery, leverage, and the return on investment of generative AI tools deployed within the firm.

Practice Management and Productivity Integrations
Laurel integrates with major legal billing and practice management systems, including Aderant, Elite/3E, ProLaw, Clio, SurePoint, Tabs3, and Juris, among others, as well as productivity tools such as Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Calendar, Gmail, Zoom, and document management systems including iManage, NetDocuments, and Box. Comparable integrations are available for accounting firms with platforms such as Thomson Reuters Practice CS, IRIS, CCH Axcess, and Workday.
