Consultants/CHANGE MANAGEMENT AND ADOPTION

Change Management and Adoption

Change management and adoption consultants help legal organizations maximize the uptake of technology, drawing on change management methodology adapted to the dynamics of legal organizations, where adoption barriers often relate to established workflows and billing practices. This work falls into two categories: structured support for major technology implementations, where consultants develop communication plans, role based training, stakeholder engagement strategies, and champion networks to drive adoption from rollout through embedded use, and ad hoc advisory support to improve adoption of an existing technology stack when usage has fallen short, often through readiness assessments and stakeholder mapping to identify where resistance will emerge. This differs from digital transformation consulting, which redesigns an organization's technology and workflows at a strategic level; change management addresses the human side of any such change, whether a single rollout or part of a broader transformation. Consultants combine formal change management frameworks with firsthand knowledge of legal culture, recognizing that resistance stems less from the technology itself than from how it disrupts familiar workflows or billing habits. As legal organizations deploy generative AI, this work has expanded to include AI specific training and use case education, since resistance to AI often centers on unfamiliarity and risk concerns rather than the tool's mechanics.
