ShieldFive is a general-purpose encrypted file collection and sharing application with a document request workflow suited to client intake at law firms, including immigration practices. Its cryptography library is open source.
Key features and functions include:
Document Requests and Checklists
Firms create a request with a title, a checklist of required documents and an optional message, producing a single shareable link for the client.
No-Account Client Uploads
Clients open the link on a phone or computer, see the checklist and upload files without creating an account, setting a password or installing an app.
Client-Side Encryption
Files, file names and checklists are encrypted on the uploader’s device to the firm’s public key using post-quantum hybrid encryption. Only ciphertext is stored, and the firm decrypts received files locally in its browser.
Link Controls
Each request link is protected by a PIN and carries file and size limits, and can be set to expire or revoked once intake for a matter is complete.
Reminders and Recurring Requests
Firms can send reminders to clients and set up recurring monthly or quarterly requests.
Firm Branding
The firm’s logo and name appear on upload pages and reminder emails.
Shared Firm Access
Additional seats give colleagues access to a shared firm inbox, with the firm’s decryption key sealed to each member’s account. Removing a member deletes their access key, and the firm key can be rotated for future requests.
Secure Outbound Sharing
Documents returned to clients, such as filed petitions or signed forms, travel end-to-end encrypted through links with an expiry, a download limit and a list of allowed countries.
Open-Source Cryptography
The encryption library is open source, and an internal security review of it has been published. The product has not yet undergone a third-party security audit.
