Search the Law

Overview

Search the Law is an AI-assisted legal research platform for England and Wales that consolidates official legal databases into a single search interface.

Key features and functions include:

Multi-Database Search
A single query is run simultaneously across official sources covering case law, legislation, tribunal decisions, government guidance, and parliamentary debates. Results are ranked by court authority.

Citation Verification
Every case citation is checked against the National Archives' court database, and statute references are checked against legislation.gov.uk, before appearing in a research output. Citations that cannot be verified against a primary source are excluded rather than displayed.

Citation Treatment Network
A citation network maps relationships between court judgments and classifies how a citing court treated a cited authority (for example, applied, distinguished, doubted, or overruled), allowing users to see how an authority has subsequently been treated.

Structured Research Outputs
Users can generate a Research Report or a more comprehensive Full Brief. The Full Brief is a multi-section document that organizes relevant case law and legislation around a legal issue, with a summary, governing legal framework, competing lines of authority, and procedural considerations.

Document Upload
Users can upload a letter or document directly into the search interface as a starting point for research.

Claude Connector
The platform offers a connector that allows it to be used directly within Claude Desktop or Claude.ai.

The platform reports drawing on official sources under UK open government and open justice licences, including case law from the National Archives, legislation.gov.uk, Hansard, Employment Tribunals, HMRC Manuals, CPS Guidance, ICO Decisions, and others; several additional sources (including the Financial Ombudsman, Scottish Courts, SRA Decisions, and IPO Decisions) are linked externally rather than searched directly. The platform states that it is not a law firm, does not provide
