RedactVault
RedactVault is document redaction software built around client-side processing: opening a file, detecting sensitive content, reviewing suggested redactions, and exporting the result all take place inside the user's browser rather than on the vendor's servers.
Key features and functions include:
Client-Side Processing
Document parsing, detection, and export occur inside the browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly libraries. According to the vendor, no document content is transmitted to RedactVault's servers during the redaction workflow; account, billing, and analytics functions use standard backend services, but document contents are excluded from that data flow.
Layered Detection
A rule-based pattern engine identifies structured identifiers such as account numbers, government ID formats, and contact details. An optional AI-based engine, described as running client-side via an on-device natural language processing model, is used for contextual detection such as personal names and organizations. A separate face-detection engine applies to images and scanned material.
Review Workflow
All detected items are presented for user review rather than redacted automatically. Users can accept or reject suggested redactions, use search-and-redact across a full document, or draw redactions manually.
Destructive Export
Exported files are designed to have underlying text, image regions, and associated metadata permanently removed rather than masked with a visual layer. Handling varies by file type: PDF exports either remove matched content natively or convert fallback pages to images, while Word, Excel, and PowerPoint exports replace redacted text within the document package.
Certification and Audit Artifacts
Exports can include a JSON redaction certificate recording input/output file hashes, rule-set hash, engine versions, and a metadata-cleanup summary, along with a hash-chained audit log intended to make later edits to the review record detectable. A standalone, browser-based verifier can recompute file hashes and check the certificate without uploading files.
Litigation Support Features
Paid plans support Bates numbering and privilege/redaction log export in CSV and PDF formats, intended for litigation production workflows.
Batch Processing
Paid plans can apply a single rule set across multiple selected files or folders, with a representative-file review step before a full batch runs.
Offline Mode
Professional and Business users can continue core processing offline within an active session after signing in while connected; this does not persist through a cold browser restart, and AI-based and face detection are unavailable offline.
