PowerPatent
Overview
PowerPatent is designed to streamline the patent application process through generative AI, reducing the time required to produce a complete first draft patent application while maintaining the accuracy and consistency required for successful prosecution. PowerPatent serves patent attorneys, patent agents, solo practitioners, law firms, in-house IP teams, and university technology transfer offices.
Key features and functions include:
AI-Assisted First Draft Generation
PowerPatent's generative AI produces a complete first draft patent application from uploaded claims, invention summaries, and figure annotations. The AI generates the background, summary, and detailed description sections, and can handle chemical formulas and multilingual specifications. The platform is designed to generate first drafts in minutes rather than hours.
Graphical Claim Drafting
The platform provides a graphical interface for drafting and structuring patent claims. Users can visually construct and edit claim hierarchies, with the system supporting the generation of preliminary claim sets from invention summaries for attorney review and refinement.
Flowchart and Drawing Management
PowerPatent includes tools for managing patent figures and flowcharts, including the ability to annotate drawings with part lists that the AI uses to generate corresponding description sections. This ensures consistency between the written specification and the drawings throughout the application.
Diagnostics and Quality Checks
The platform includes automated diagnostic tools that check for Section 112 issues — including enablement, written description, and indefiniteness — and identify inconsistencies in claim support within the specification. These diagnostics are designed to catch common prosecution issues before filing.
Invention Disclosure Capture
PowerPatent provides a structured interface for capturing invention disclosure information from inventors, including descriptions, drawings, and annotations. The tool is designed to be accessible to non-lawyer inventors, simplifying the information-gathering stage for patent professionals.
Inventor and Client Collaboration
The cloud-based platform supports real-time collaboration among attorneys, inventors, and clients. Multiple stakeholders can review, comment on, and edit draft applications within the platform, with activity tracked throughout the drafting process.
OfficeAction AI — Office Action Response Module
OfficeAction AI is a separate module within the PowerPatent platform that automates the drafting of responses to USPTO Office Actions. Users upload the Office Action notice and case materials; the AI analyzes rejection types (including 101, 102, 103, and 112 rejections), cited prior art, and examiner reasoning, then generates a tailored response draft. The module includes deadline management and calendar integration, a Microsoft Word plugin for inline drafting, USPTO-compliant document formatting, and collaboration tools for attorney review. Integrations with docketing systems including Foundation IP and PatentCenter are available.
University Technology Transfer Management (UTTM)
PowerPatent offers a dedicated software suite for university technology transfer offices, supporting patent portfolio management, licensing opportunity identification, and the conversion of academic publications into provisional patent applications. The UTTM module is designed to help technology transfer offices manage large patent portfolios and reduce upfront IP protection costs.
Private PAIR Integration
PowerPatent integrates with the USPTO's Private PAIR system, enabling users to access prosecution history and case status information directly within the platform workflow.
