MiAI Law

MiAI Law

Overview

MiAI Law supports lawyers, in-house legal teams, government, and the judiciary across case research, document review, and verification workflows, built specifically for Australian legal practice. It combines a proprietary legal reasoning architecture with generative AI—using Microsoft Azure OpenAI large language models in inference-only mode—to produce structured, citation-supported analysis.

Key features and functions include:

Case Research (Lite and Deep Modes)
Lite Mode is designed for concise, authoritative answers to focused legal questions, while Deep Mode applies first-principles analysis tracing doctrine through case law. Distinguishes binding precedent from persuasive authority and provides pinpoint references and hyperlinks to source material.

Legislative Research
Applies statutory construction principles to interpret legislation, supports procedural research across civil and criminal pathways in superior courts and administrative tribunals, and provides point-in-time analysis of the law as it stood at a given date.

Case Summarisation
Distills judgments into structured summaries that preserve judicial reasoning, segmenting majority, concurring, and dissenting opinions and distinguishing ratio decidendi from obiter dicta, with judicial and paragraph references.

Contract Intelligence
Provides clause-by-clause contract review, risk and enforceability assessment, and negotiation support, including audit functions intended to identify ambiguity, inconsistency, and legal vulnerability across agreements.

CheckMate Verification (LawCheck, AppealCheck, PleadingCheck)
Verifies legal propositions, authorities, and citations in submissions and correspondence; tests submissions and judgments for completeness and reasoning errors; and assesses whether pleadings address each required element of a cause of action.

Microsoft Word and Microsoft Copilot Integration
Allows users to review, interrogate, navigate, and amend contracts and pleadings directly within Microsoft Word and Microsoft Copilot.

Data is processed within Australian data residency, encrypted in transit and at rest, within a closed system. The company states customer data is not used to train AI models. MiAI Law is developed by MiAI Law Pty Ltd, an Australian company founded by barrister Laina Chan (CEO) and Dr. Arjun Jain (CTO).
