LitArbi is a desktop application for exhibit management and citation in litigation and international arbitration, built to work alongside Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer, and Google Docs.
Key features and functions include:
Exhibit management
Imports documents, folders, and e-mails into a matter; reads titles and dates, runs OCR, detects languages, finds duplicates, and splits long volumes into separate exhibits. Each exhibit carries a date (or date range), author, party, type, and custodian, and Bates stamps can be applied.
Numbering
Supports configurable numbering conventions, including claimant and respondent series, legal authorities, witness statements and expert reports, and the German Anlage K 1 / Beilage 1 style. Numbers can be assigned on first citation or in bulk; renumbering can be undone, and shared matters use a team lock to prevent duplicate numbers.
Citation in word processors
A pane beside Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer, or Google Docs lists a matter’s exhibits and authorities. Citations are inserted with pinpoints, as footnotes or inline text, in full on first citation and in short form afterward, following citation templates the matter defines; each citation links to its exhibit. An “Update from Brief” function renumbers exhibits by order of appearance, inserts the list of exhibits as a table, and builds an index of authorities from the citations.
Bundles and filing
Produces stamped exhibit bundles with an index, or as a single PDF with a clickable index and bookmarks; links a submission PDF to the cited page of each exhibit; checks submissions for metadata before filing; signs PDFs with a certificate or qualified electronic signature; and delivers bundles as password-protected ZIP files with a machine-readable index.
Team and server sharing
An optional, self-hosted server component keeps shared matters in sync across Mac and Windows computers, offers browser access, allows co-counsel, experts, and clients to be invited as guests to individual matters, supports two-step sign-in, retains deleted records for 30 to 180 days, and generates download links for bundles. Matters can be end-to-end encrypted.
Platform availability
Native applications for macOS and Windows, companion apps for iPad and Android, and add-ins for Microsoft Word (both the current Microsoft 365/Office 2024 add-in and a legacy ribbon add-in for Word 2019 and later), LibreOffice Writer, and Google Docs.
Data handling and optional AI
Matters are stored locally on the user’s device, optionally on an encrypted external drive. Translation and AI-assisted features are optional, can be switched off, and use either a cloud AI provider selected by the firm with the firm’s own API key, or a local model that runs on the user’s device.
