Learned Hand AI
by Learned Hand
Learned Hand is a judicial case preparation platform providing judges, law clerks, and staff attorneys with generative AI support for the fact extraction, legal research, and drafting work involved in preparing dispositive motions. The platform was developed by a team that includes former law clerks and staff attorneys and is structured around the procedural requirements of specific motion types, including summary judgment, motions to compel, demurrers, and preliminary approval of class action settlements.
Key Features & Functions:
Case Intake and Structuring
Case materials can be uploaded directly or synced from a connected case management system. The platform extracts relevant facts from the record, identifies disputed issues, and organizes the legal and factual arguments raised in the underlying filings.
Motion-Specific Analysis
Analysis is generated according to the procedural standard that applies to the specific motion type and jurisdiction, so that the resulting output reflects applicable local rules and case posture rather than a single generic format.
Citation Verification
Citations in underlying filings and in platform-generated output are checked against their source documents. The feature confirms that a cited case exists, that the pinpoint reference is accurate, and that the proposition asserted is supported by the actual holding, and flags fabricated, mischaracterized, or unsupported citations.
Draft Generation
The platform produces a first draft of research memos, proposed orders, or issue analyses with citations linked to their sources. Drafts can be reviewed and edited within the platform or exported to Word.
Interactive Review
Users can select an individual statement within the generated analysis to view its underlying source and can ask follow-up questions to refine the analysis before finalizing a draft.
