BatesNumbers is a web-based Bates numbering platform designed for legal document productions, allowing users to upload and process PDFs, images, and ZIP-based document sets without installing desktop software or first combining files into a single PDF.

Multi-format upload support
Users can upload PDFs, JPG, PNG, and TIFF images, and ZIP archives in a single job. Images are automatically converted into production-ready PDF output before numbering is applied.

Continuous or per-file numbering
Bates numbering can run as one continuous sequence across an entire production or restart for each file, with configurable prefixes, starting numbers, padding length, and optional suffixes.

Document preparation handling
The platform rotates upside-down scans, resizes oversized pages to standard Letter or Legal dimensions, and preserves original ZIP folder structure so output remains organized.

Preview before processing
A preview workflow lets users review sample pages for numbering, placement, and formatting, and adjust and rerun settings before the full job is finalized.

Placement and styling controls
Users can set Bates number position, margins, font, size, color, and bold styling, and optionally add a white background for readability on image-based documents.

Exhibit labeling and additional text
Documents can be labeled with alphabetic or numeric exhibit designations, a custom exhibit prefix, and secondary text such as case numbers or confidentiality notices.

Bates indexes
Completed jobs generate PDF and CSV indexes listing document names, Bates ranges, and page counts for review, audit, and delivery purposes.

File retention and deletion
Uploaded files and generated outputs are automatically deleted according to plan-based retention settings, and users can manually delete files after processing.
