Smart Drafting

Premium

Smart drafting uses artificial intelligence to support legal drafting in real time, analyzing text as a lawyer works and suggesting relevant clauses or edits directly within familiar tools such as Microsoft Word. Unlike document automation, which relies on pre-built templates and structured questionnaire logic, smart drafting works dynamically: as a lawyer types, the system identifies the type of clause being drafted and recommends language pulled from the organization's own clause library or external sources, without requiring a template to already exist for that specific document. Originally built on machine learning and natural language processing, most smart drafting tools have since incorporated generative AI to adjust clause language for context, translate clauses or documents, and let users query clause libraries conversationally. Many broader AI legal assistant platforms now offer comparable drafting capability, both through a chat-style assistant interface and through their own Word plug-ins, blurring the line with standalone smart drafting tools, though dedicated solutions generally offer more mature knowledge-management curation and clause-bank functionality.
