Data Visualization

Data visualization tools convert data into graphic form, such as dashboards, charts, maps, and other interactive displays, making patterns and relationships easier to see and communicate than in raw tabular data. In legal use, common applications include corporate structure and ownership charts, transaction timelines and step plans, multi-jurisdiction regulatory surveys, dashboards tracking litigation caseloads or firm financials, and visual summaries of deal or transaction data. Some tools are general-purpose business-intelligence platforms adapted for legal use, while others are purpose-built for specific legal data sets and workflows, such as mapping jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction requirements or diagramming the structure and terms of a transaction. These tools have traditionally sat downstream of a data source, such as an internal database, a data lake, or an external feed pulled in via API, focusing on the visual presentation layer rather than the underlying collection or extraction of the data itself. Generative AI is changing this: many tools now generate diagrams, timelines, and visual summaries directly from unstructured input, such as text descriptions, hand-drawn sketches, or uploaded documents, folding data extraction and interpretation into the visualization step itself.
