When Should You Hire a Consultant for Your Internal Project?

Law firms have limited resources to implement major projects, and so it has become relatively common – at least in the United States – to bring on a consultant to support deployments of significant technology investments. But there are consultants in the industry offering far broader services than technology implementation, and even technology implementation services now include additional components, such as discovery and change management. With so many offerings available, how do you know when you actually need to bring on a consultant, when is it advisable to do so, and when is it better to rely on your own internal resources to drive a project to completion?
