In 2010, when Noah Waisberg launched Kira, it was a novel concept to use advanced technology such as machine learning and natural language processing to identify and extract data points across large numbers of documents. Although similar types of technology were in use for eDiscovery, the concept of using artificial intelligence (AI) to automate the review of contracts for other purposes was novel. Consequently, as Kira matured and firms recognized the significant efficiency gains to be had from automating large-scale contract review processes, other players entered the market, and the category of contract review has become crowded.
