A Simple Tool for Overcoming Communications Breakdowns Between In-House Legal Teams and the Business

Lawyers and other legal professionals often struggle with communicating in the language of business leaders. And vice versa. The “failure to communicate” is a leading cause of the failure to launch innovation projects and the breakdown and collapse of efforts that do launch.

Over the years, I’ve noticed that a lot of business communication and persuasion happens through simple visual tools: decision-makers like maps, charts, infographics, canvases, and matrices. Lawyers, on the other hand, like long, word-dense memos and letters. There is a big gap between these two preferred ways of communicating into which many innovation projects fall into and get lost.
