Overview

Stella Legal is an AI-native legal services firm spanning eDiscovery, contracting, legal operations, M&A, and data management, with attorneys retaining judgment, supervision, and certification across every engagement. Atlas, used within its Discovery & Dispute Resolution practice, is the firm's agentic review platform: it removes the human first-pass layer in document review, coding the full population for relevance, issues, and privilege candidates under attorney-defined scope and validation.

Key features and functions include:

Hold and preservation
Atlas drafts and issues litigation hold notices, tracks custodian acknowledgements, and escalates only exceptions for attorney attention.

Collection and processing
The tool drives cloud data sources through scoped APIs, hash-verifies collected material, and generates a chain-of-custody log.

Early case assessment
Atlas proposes and tests search terms against the document population within days and produces hit reports to inform scope and meet-and-confer negotiation.

Automated first-pass review across 100% of the population
Atlas reads every document in the population and codes each for relevance, issue tags, and privilege candidacy, recording a written rationale for each coding decision. The function replaces the contract-reviewer layer that conventionally performs first-pass review rather than accelerating it.

Routing and exception handling
Hot documents, close privilege calls, and low-confidence codings are routed to attorneys; remaining documents are set aside for defensible sampling-based quality control.

Mission Control oversight
Every engagement is directed from Stella Legal's Mission Control, where attorneys and legal engineers supervise the review, refine the analysis, and validate findings. Attorney involvement is structured around four gates: instructing and approving scope; conducting meet-and-confer; validating outputs, including elusion samples and privilege close calls, with corrections used to tune the model; and certifying the production under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 26(g).

Protocol-change reprocessing
Where review criteria shift mid-matter, Atlas reprocesses the affected population in hours rather than requiring re-review.

Defensibility documentation
Each production ships with a defensibility pack comprising agent activity logs, chain-of-custody documentation, recall statistics, and document-level coding rationale.

Model orchestration
Atlas selects among available AI models on a per-matter basis and incorporates new models as they are validated.
